Ill use this opportunity to ask Ironclad to please add the auto-upload for maps in 1.1 , and maybe to sort out the map positions with options.

It will help the mp community so much

Used; tell us at least 5 bugs.
How are team locations a joke? Sorry mate if you enjoy turtling matches.
What do you mean by auto-upload new maps?
on Jul 20, 2008
Auto upload means someone can host a Galaxy Forge Map they have created , and people do not need the map downloaded before hand inorder to join the game because the map auto-downloads to them from the host. Sins already does this with Custom maps ,but not with Galaxy Forged maps . map sizes are 15-30k.

Games such as the Homeworld 2 , feature auto-download of maps.

Mp positions are supposedly a joke because its random spawn. In some occasions this is good because it encourages adaptation and inpromptu strategy to double opponents and rescue isolated allies.

The sad reality is that in public games , players that are left isolated are often doubled without recieving any help from allies, and usually they just quit the game even if the opposing team is worse off with one of their players being isolated and doubled . This is usually followed by more quitting and the game ends like that. Yay. What people want is for all 4 players to start in a chain. So there are two support players and two frontline players either side who each have one front.

Some maps like Twin Empires also have random spawn. Some players end up playing a 1v1 with an enemy who has spawned 2 jumps from them. Players want to have teamwork in 4v4 maps , not isolated pointblank-esque 1v1 games. I can only see clan matches or skilled only , who would enjoy random spawn for the adaptation requirement. For public games....its a sad story.

I second the request for enabling or adding custom map auto-download. If that's done, custom mappers can take care of the starting position issues in the standard maps for the community on their own, releasing new versions of the standard maps, ala Entanglement-CE101 (Clan Edition version 101), Twin Empires-CE101, etc.

It should also be noted that players can get around the game's lack of auto-download by becoming Sins Rebels and just learning to download and install custom maps. It's very easy and it isn't even necessary to close the game. It only takes a few minutes to learn how to do it and once you've done it the first time you'll be able to easily download and install other custom maps.

What's kinda sad is that it's so very easy to do and yet so few Sins players are interested in learning how to do it. It's as though Sinners are just computer illiterate or as though they've been consolized and want to play the game with as little independence and initiative as possible.

In the old days when kids walked 5 miles to school, one way, uphill, I used to download custom capture-the-flag maps for the original Unreal Tournament (1999) over dialup. The game had auto-download of course, but on dialup I still had to wait for the 3 MB files to download. I also took the trouble to figure out what maps my favorite servers were hosting and then downloaded and installed those maps separately when I wasn't playing. If I could go to all of that trouble for a game I loved you'd think that Sinners could learn to download tiny custom map files at lightening speed.

This bit is dead true though.

It would be nice to have groups starting points as an option. Would lead to bigger wars rather than randomly little early scraps.

I think another viable solution to that besides making the starting positions static is to set up more chokepoints on the maps. In AoE3, you could run your forces across the map fairly quickly, as where the ships in Sins move at a snails pace in comparison.

So your comparing troops walking on foot to space ships jumping between planets. Though I will say that I would have loved for at least one military upgrade to make ships move faster overall for all races.

Anyway I would agree to the ability to at least set up map positions with custom maps at the minimum plus the autoload for maps.
